Assessment Task

Part A – Prepare for the design and installation of an integrated server solution

1. Consult with client and key stakeholders to identify server integration requirements. Your assessor will play the part of the client. You must have a discussion with your assessor to determine server integration requirements. Submit consultation notes as evidence of your discussion. Upload notes with assessment submissions.

2. Prepare for work, according to site specific safety requirements and enterprise work health and safety (WHS) processes and procedures. See appendix A for the WSC WHS policy. Complete safety checklist and upload with assessment submissions.

3. Arrange access to site, advise client of deployment and potential down times and ensure that the project is coordinated effectively with others at the worksite. You must discuss and advise the client (your assessor) of deployment and potential down times and make arrangements to coordinate the project with others at the worksite. Write consultation notes from your discussion and upload with assessment submissions.

Part B – Plan and design integrated server solution

4. Research and review authentication methods available for integration of network operating systems. Based on your research, select authentication methods and associated protocols that would be the most suitable for the project. Draft an email to the IT manager, listing and explaining your recommendations.

5. Research redundancy and replication requirements for the authentication models you have selected and provide evidence of your findings. Upload the evidence with assessment submissions.

6. Produce the integrated server design, including:

a. authentication

b. file sharing and

c. security

Part C – Install and configure the integrated server solution

7. Implement the integrated authentication solution.

Take screenshots as evidence of your work and submit the screenshots.

8. Implement the integrated file sharing solution.

Take screenshots as evidence of your work and submit the screenshots.

9. Configure workstations for the integrated environment.

Take screenshots as evidence of your work and submit the screenshots.

10. Implement security for the integrated server environment.

Take screenshots as evidence of your work and submit the screenshots.

Part D – Test and reconfigure network servers

11. Test the server for benchmarking against client specifications and requirements according to the test plan. Record outcomes and provide a screenshot documenting the test. Upload documentation with assessment submissions.

12. Analyse the error report and reconfigure the servers as required.

Submit notes of your analysis and produce a screenshot showing the reconfiguration.

13. Use troubleshooting tools and techniques to diagnose and correct integration problems.

Take screenshots as evidence of your work and upload with assessment submissions.

14. Run tests on the changes or additions that you have made.

Take screenshots as evidence of your work, showing the tests and results. Upload the screenshots with assessment submissions.

15. Validate the changes or additions against specifications.

Take screenshots as evidence of your work and submit the screenshots.

Part E – Complete and document network design and installation

16. Write a brief report addressing the following points:

• Make and document server configuration and operational changes.

• notification of server status.

17. Clean up and restore worksite to client’s satisfaction according to the WSC site clean-up policy (see appendix).  Document the clean-up and restoration with a notification to the client explaining the clean-up work you have done.

18. Have a discussion with the IT manager (your assessor) to secure sign-off on the project. You must make sure that you interact with the IT manager rather than just communicating by email to meet the requirements of the unit.
