Royal Hotel, a new luxury hotel in GTA, is scheduled to open in March 2018. It will have 500 hotel rooms and three food and beverage outlets, which include a steakhouse, a Japanese restaurant, and a lobby bar. The hotel will also have 10,000 square feet of event space for wedding, conference, and business retreat meetings. Other amenities include an indoor pool, 2 whirlpools, a sauna and steam room, a gym, a spa, and a business center. You have just been hired as the human resources director of Royal Hotel. The general manager has asked you to do the following tasks: 1. Prepare job description and job specification for all the positions of the new hotel – due to time limitation, you are only required to prepare job description and job specification of one position. Possible positions are bell person, guest room attendant, house person, front desk agent, restaurant server, front desk manager, restaurant supervisor, sou chef etc. 2. Recommend the pay rate for the position you selected on task 1. You are required to justify your pay rate recommendation. You can research on the Internet for the prevailing pay rate information. Possible sources are glassdoor.ca, jobbank.gc.ca, etc. 3. Ontario lawmakers have just passed Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017. Prepare a memo to summarize the highlights of the act and explain its impact on your new hotel’s human resources management.
