Project 1: You are the project manager of ABC Company and John who is the owner of the Coffeeville café has contacted you for a refurbishment he has in mind. John has told you that he wants to re-design the entire dining area which is currently of 40sqm and a capacity of 60 seats.
The café has been in the heart of Melbourne CBD for last 40 years and never had any renovation. The place is now tired and needs a complete face lift. John also wants to upgrade his kitchen area and seating capacity.
Project 2: You are the project manager of ABC Company and Jason who is the owner of the Australian Hardware store has contacted you for a refurbishment he has in mind. Jason wants you to create a play area in the store as there are many families come in his hardware store and his competitors Bunning have introduced the play areas in their stores.
You are required to complete the following tasks to complete this project:
1. Define project (Project brief)
You are required to call team meeting and consult with team members to formulate and project brief for the trip. Your brief should include following:
- You must define project by including project goal statement.
- You must define who will stakeholders involved in this project
- You must discuss the scope of project and seek clarification from your assessor (delegating authority) for any issue that may arise during trip.
- Identify your own role in implementing the project and reporting requirements associated with role
You can either present this into template provided as Appendix 1 or present in report format. You must address all points discussed. Each team member is required to complete their own project brief.
2. Project plan
Prepare a detailed plan and discuss with your team and take their views in to account while completing the plan and gain approval before finalising the project plan.
You must include the following in the project plan :

- measurable benefits of the project
- Facilities
- information/communication strategy

3. Administer and monitor project
After completing the project plan, now you are required to demonstrate your project administration and monitoring skills by completing a project report (words 500-1000).
You are required to complete following tasks:
- Draw up a Gantt chart for the preparations for your Project identifying clear timelines for each task.
- You are required to call project team meeting and do a presentation on each team member's responsibility and project requirements.
- Outline the monitoring tools to monitor your progress of project including finances.
- You are also required to identify the support needs in relation to each responsibility and explain how you will provide support to team member to ensure quality of expected outcome and timelines are met.
- Develop a record keeping process to monitor the plan.
- Imagine, any risks to the projects e.g. suppliers not delivering on time or poor quality etc . outline the strategy you will take to avoid the risk to the project.
- Present your project plan to your assessor for approval and sign off.
Print and include any documents you use from any sources and reference any other information for your Assessor. Your Assessor will also have some questions to ask you on this Task once your Assessment is submitted. Be prepared to justify any decisions that you have made thus far.
4. Finalise and review project
You are required to call a review meeting and prepare a report (400-500 words) covering following topics:
- What are financial records you will have end of the project and how would check them for accuracy.
- You must write a review on project outcome taking feedback from team members.
- Your report must also include lessons learnt from project and improvement suggestions.
- Submit project review report for necessary sign off by assessor.
