Energy demand is rising and we are thinking about energy conservation and reusing the waste exhaust gas and hot water in our workplace and houses.
If you decide to reuse the wasted hot water from a shower, so that an electric water heater operate for shorter time. Usually the water is heated from 14°C to 48°C.
The shower warm water is drained at 38°C and flows steadily at a rate of 7 kg/min. For the purpose of preheating the inlet cold water, design a suitable heat exchanger, and discuss the potential savings in energy and money for your area as well as limitations of this heat exchanger.
Assuming that this system will serve a family consist of 4 adults and each member showers 4 times a week for an average of 15 minutes.
Plot the process diagram for the system before and after the addition of the heat exchanger.
