The skills I would utilize to ensure the agreement is mutually upon are my active listen and communication skills. Active listen will ensure that I focus totally on my client's concerns and work towards a solution for their issues. My communication skills will allow me to reflect back with the client to ensure we are both understand what the client is mostly concern about and have established the appropriate goals to meet these needs. Treatment planning affects the implementation of the treatment as it provides the guideline needed to successfully complete the treatment.

As the social worker, I would work with my clients, prioritize their needs, and establish goals to foster empowerment during the planning process. The most important step is working with the client. In working with the client, I can develop a trusting and genuine professional relationship with my client. I can also assess important information. Clients are the best source to provide pertinent information in establishing their goals and planning process (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2012). Prioritizing the client goal helps the client recognize that a problem exists. Even if the client and the worker do not agree with the priority order, at least the problems would be acknowledge and the client and the worker can began implementing goals to diminish the problem. Once the problems are recognized and placed in an order where the client feels he/she can successfully formulate a plan to eliminate each issue one at a time, the client can began to develop proper steps to rid them of these concerns. Establishing obtainable goals will also empower the client to a feeling of accomplishment and the ability to manage her life appropriate with less help from outside sources.

In working collaboratively with Debra and her children, Debra and the children were able understand each other's needs and formulate a safety plan with the social worker that both Debra and the children agreed upon. The social worker was also focused on Debra's strengths and resiliency of being physically and emotional abused by her husband and feeling abandon by her family, to empower her to make a stance to protect herself and her children while keeping her marriage intact and regaining support from her family. Eventually Debra was strong and skillful enough to handle her situation on her own, needing only enough support to revamp her safety plan. Empowering Debra gave her husband the motivation to seek help for himself and respect the boundaries set by Debra and the children.

Generalist social workers utilize their knowledge, array of skills, values and ethics in an effort to assist a multitude of clients with different problems (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2012). In the case of Debra, the social worker related the Generalist Intervention Model in several ways. As a generalist practitioner, the social worker understood the importance of being cultural competent. She gathered information from her sessions with Debra to learn about the Chinese cultural values pertaining to marriage and family. The social worker developed a relationship with Debra where Debra felt comfortable enough to come into the office to discuss her children's behavior as it related to her husband's issues. She used a wide range of skills as she was able to focus on the Debra's individual needs and included Debra's children in developing a safety plan.
