A pH profile shows that the pH optimum for an enzyme is from pH5 to pH9. Assuming that the pKas for the side chains of the amino acids are unaltered from their normal values, propose an amino acid which must be in a deprotonated state for the enzyme to be active and propose an amino acid which must be in the protonated state for the enzyme to be active.
