This assignment requires you to think about and research different perspectives on a contemporary political issue in the media. Communication skills-such as the ability to clearly and accurately summarize an article's key arguments-are important for academic and long-term professional success. This assignment is an opportunity to explore a political issue of interest to you in the media. It requires you to conduct research in newspapers or political blogs, to identify an author's key arguments, and to succinctly and clearly summarize the article for others. You will participate in a discussion group where you will present and discuss your summary with your peers.

Instructions

1. Write a one-two page (250 to 500 words) summary on an article of your choice. The article should be chosen from a major Canadian or international newspaper (such as The Guardian, Wall Street Journal, Globe & Mail, CBC, or Edmonton Journal) or political blog (such as the Huffington Post, Politico, or Daily Kos).
