Based on the Weick and Sutcliffe reading examine how organizations can improve problem solving by reading early warning signs and thus preven full-blown problems. By creating what they call a “mindful infrastructure,” organizations can better respond to unexpected events; that is, “notice the unexpected in the making, halt it or contain it, and restore system functioning.” [1] They explain the five key operating principles which, indeed, make sense for organizations attempting to perform with high reliability in an “age of uncertainty.”
