According to the CDC and other mental health organizations, there has been a significant increase in the number of people experiencing mental health issues during and as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some people may be more susceptible to mental health issues, while others may be more resilient (See chapters 9 and 10).

Part 1: Your text, Chapter 12, discusses several different psychological disorders from different categories: Anxiety disorders, Mood disorders, Personality disorders, Stress disorders, Eating disorders, Schizophrenia, and Dissociative Identity disorder. From the topics in Chapter 12, discuss the potential mental health issues that may arise from a pandemic such as COVID-19. Identify at least two (2) disorders and Include symptoms and causes (biological, social, and psychological). You also should include current information from at least one reputable, relevant source such as the CDC, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Instute of Health (NIH), World Health Organization (WHO), Pew Research Center, American Medical Association (AMA), and the Mayo Clinic, to name a few.

Part II: Chapter 13 provides information about psychological and medical treatments for different psychological disorders. Take the disorders that you discussed in Part 1, and outline possible solutions for each disorder. Use your text and outside resources such as those listed under Part 1 (e.g., NIMH, NIH, etc.) for reliable information. Think about the solutions offered in Chapter 4 and 9 on coping and emotional regulation. Be very specific in the treatments you discuss: name the therapy and include features of the therapy and why it is used for a particular disorder. Be specific about medications or medical treatments; name the medication and how it treats the disorder. This information is available in Chapter 13.

Part III: Consider the stigma (see videos under Course Content Ch 12) about being diagnosed with a mental health disorder. What can and should we do to reduce stigma so that people will get the help that they need?
