On March 23, 2010, the US Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was passed and signed into law. One component of the large and complex bill was to provide affordable health care coverage to all Americans. To do this a federal marketplace was to be set up to provide customers a space to search, compare, and purchase health insurance policies. The rollout date for the new website, HealthCare.gov, was October 1, 2013. In between these two dates, there was poor planning, terrible decision making, political gridlock, and even intentional sabotage that hurt this process and inevitably attributed to the issues of the initial rollout.
HealthCare.gov launch date to the public was October 1st, 2013. After the rollout, many users who tried to create an account experienced long wait times and glitches. On the first day of sign-ups, only six people were able to fully enroll. The issues lasted for months after the release and were ridiculed by the media.
