Both the reading passage and the lecture discuss validity of reasons why European minks has decreases in numbers largely in the few last years the passage states three reasons but the professor disagrees on each one with a valid evidence.
First the habitat changes of the minks are the reason for that decrease since the fresh water streams and lakes have decreased due to human activities like farming it effects the minks but the professor stated that in finland the number of minks decreased in 1920s while decrease in fresh water streams started in 1950s which state that it is not the reason of the decrease since it happened long before the decrease of ghal habitat.
Second the passage stated that minks usually mate with another mammal which is pole cats which result on a mammal that cant reproduce and since this habit has increased minks got effected and decreased in numbers but the professor stated that a study shows that with enough minks in one area they dont mate with pole cats so mating with pole cats is a result not a cause
Finally decreas in numbers of cry fish which is the source of food for minks lead to the decrease of minks due to hard changing on diet but the professor says that north europe is colder and cry fish doesnt live there but minks do and it is found that when it doesnt find fishes it lives on hunting frogs make a complete different words but the same meaning with a different garmma, also the transitions word.
