The previous principal, Mr. Calbo, was a friend and previous co-worker to the other teachers. Because of this, he was treating them as a peer-professional by hearing their every complaint and frustration or talking gossip. The text describes his leadership style as political. On the other hand, Dr. Werner spends more of her time with students and trying to build a sense of independency and confidence in her educators. To me, the comparison is that both possess a sense of transformational leadership rather than transactional leadership. The strength of transformational leadership is that an administrator with this type of leadership greatly trusts the professionals around them to do their job. The weakness for transformational leadership could be that an administrator could have too many "friend" feelings and not enough "professional" feelings. Transactional leadership, though, has a strength of, as an administrator, being more in control than someone who relegates responsibilities in transformational leadership. The weakness would be to have to offer external rewards for those other educators to do a certain job or have a certain behavior.
