Macroergonomics applies specifically to occupational and systems safety, interface design, product development, and the analysis of complex work environments. discuss any component of the healthcare system (US or International), from the perspective of healthcare as a complex system. Keep your focus on one component (e.g., home healthcare for the elderly), but also consider the interactions with the whole work system. What challenges exist (e.g., defined schedules, reliable communication systems, safe and hygienic physical locations, and resources). Why is healthcare considered a complex sociotechnical system? How does the component selected, interact with the larger system? Where is the potential for human error (e.g., medication errors, wrong-site surgeries, healthcare provider injuries)? What research has been done on this sector of healthcare to address complexities and human error rates? How do stress, economics, safety/organizational culture impact patient safety? Consider what interventions are in place to ensure joint optimization of the technical and human subsystems (e.g., electronic health records implementation). Reference a minimum of three peer-reviewed or reputable industry sources.
