1. Start by making a list of what you think OmniFab's critical business functions or processes are. (Hint: start from the outcomes of the company - what they sell to their clients, and why their clients come back for more.) You should probably have a list of five to ten critical functions. Arrange these in what you think their top-to-bottom priority order (most critical first, least critical last) seems to be, with a short explanation as to why.

2. For each function, identify the key assets that function needs - whether that is tacit knowledge that skilled, knowledgeable people possess; or business process knowledge, that might be / should be written down somewhere; whether it's an information system or information technology asset; or some other kind of asset.

3. For each of those assets, take a guess (that is, "hypothesize") as to whether you think it is one that can easily be moved to an alternate site, or would have to be replaced at the alternate site. (For example, if you identified that a climate-controlled, clean machine shop space was needed in order to continue CADAM operations, then you need a replacement "space", rather than moving the room itself.)

4. How many of those items in your lists are IT / information systems ones? Which ones are not information systems, data, or knowledge based? And for these items how well does the continuity planning process, as described in this chapter, help you in considering how to provide continuity support to OmniFab and the critical business functions it needs these non-IT assets to operate with?

5. Some of those non-IT assets - like the CADAM machine tools themselves, and the shop space to operate them in - are probably not items that can quickly be ordered up from a vendor for rapid recovery at an alternate site. What might this lead you to suggest to OmniFab's management for further investigation and consideration? Note that you may find it easier to organize your answers in a table format, either in Excel or Word - compatible format (tables of text), instead of as simple narrative answers.
