There are two different types of reinforcement. The first type is positive reinforcement this is defined as, "The occurrence of a behavior, it is followed by the addition of a stimulus or an increase in the intensity of a stimulus, and ultimately results in the strengthening of the behavior"(Miltenberger, 2008). A personal example of positive reinforcement is when I used to play volleyball. I was never a super aggressive player but it always encouraged me to do better when my coach told me that I was playing well. So even in the moments where I felt nervous, her being encouraging made me want to perform better, The other type of reinforcement is negative reinforcement. This is when, "the occurrence of a behavior that is followed by the addition of a stimulus or an increase in the intensity of a stimulus" ( Miltenberger, 2008 ). A personal example of this would be when I worked in the hospital, I had sixteen patients I had to take care of. Throughout the day we would have set times where we would have to go to each room to take a set of vitals and do whatever they asked. If I was able to get all of those tasks done in a reasonable amount of time then I would be able to take my break earlier. So I am more likely to get all those tasks done in an efficient amount of time if I want to avoid taking a break at a later time.
