Need for job evaluation
In every organization different employees perform different tasks necessary to carry on the business of the organization effectively, efficiently, economically or call financially justifiably. In the present day fast changing world all the positions are either becoming redundant or need re-engineering.
There may be some departments which over the period have become inefficient, underperforming or completely meaningless to carry on with it. Then many a roles may not have remained compatible with modern times or changed situation. It would look very odd if the role played by the department is not in conformity with the proper name. The job of maintaining stock or raw- material in a factory/company is now known as inventory control
Ideally should comprise of the HR Head, Department head of the department under evaluation, technical supervisor or team leader. Care should be taken that there are not more managers than required and are one way or other directly connected with the department. There must be proper chain of command.
Role played by the committee
In the past decade, a number of roles have either completely vanished or redefined. In the service industry say banking and insurance they have come to be known in keeping with the products they sell/handle.
The objective is to ensure that each and every department in the organization is running in the most cost effective efficient manner. Running efficiently is no more criteria for its existence. It must prove financially justifiable also
