The Nacirema view of the human body is similar to ours in that they think it should be treated with respect and care as a temple. But they also think that the human body is a huge source of power and that it can be utilized to manage and control other people.

The Tiv elders' implicit presumptions about human nature contribute to their misunderstanding of Bohannan's account, including the notion that people are inherently self-centered and primarily concerned with their own wants and needs. They also think that people can never change and will always remain the same.
