To a degree, I have always understood that many individual challenges result from lived experiences, biological, psychological, social and cultural factors. However, this course has given me a deeper comprehension of how these factors can influence one's thoughts and behaviours. The initial two assignments had a profound impact on me as I conducted research, leading to increased self-awareness and a better understanding of the impact of mood and anxiety disorders on individuals. Overall, the most significant lessons I gained from this course focused on the Culturally Responsive Social Just framework and acquiring additional skills and resources to enhance my cultural intelligence. As an educator, I have been actively working on personal growth in this area over the past few years and have developed a strong passion for promoting inclusivity. As Slay-Westbrook (2017) shared, we study to be a counsellor because we care about others and want to help; however, despite one's best intentions, sometimes the impact may not be the intended result. I acknowledge the need and look forward to further developing my competencies so I can have a positive impact on the lives of my clients.

Counsellors must reflect on their motivations and personal vulnerability, which can change over time and impact their practice (McBeath, 2019). Now that we have almost completed our first course in our program, how has your inspiration or motivation changed about becoming a therapist?
