Most Valuable Brands
We have discussed in this class how every successful product answers a customer's wants or needs. Think about how the most effective brands communicate the total product offering in a way that responds to customer's wants - whether the customer realizes it or not. For example - some car companies subtly signal how safe their cars are for children, responding to parents' deep-seated psychological needs to keep their children safe from harm.
Now look at Forbes' list of the most valuable brands on earth.
Assignment Questions
1. Choose one of the brands on the list. What consumer needs or wants or deep psychological conditions do these brands respond to?
2. Find an advertisement or other brand communication (perhaps from social media) from this company that you think answers their customers' wants or needs. Focus on how the advertisement supports the elements of the brand. Paste an image of the ad or a link in your response, and explain how this advertisement does a great job of supporting the brand and communicating directly with the customer's needs or wants.
3. Most of these brands on the list are considered to be the best in their respective industries. As such, creating a relative position for these companies is all about being the best/largest/strongest in their sector. It is also important to note that most brands on the list are based in the United States, which could enhance differentiation and positioning, What bases do these brands use for differentiation? What strategies do they use to create a relative position in their markets? How do they stand out as better than the competitiong? Why do these brands hold so much value?
