Modern Translation Comparison -- Paper Requirements:

  1. Select three modern translations of the Bible to compare with one another: (See "Finding Your Translations" below.)A word-for-word translation (King James; New American Standard Bible, Revised Standard Version, or English Standard Version)
  2. A thought-for-thought translation (New International Version, New Jerusalem Bible, NET)
  3. A paraphrase translation (New Living Translation, Good News Translation, The Message)
  4. Summarize the background for each translation that you have selected.
  5. Read Psalm 8 in each translation and summarize any differences you saw. Then do the same for Isaiah 37:14-38 and Ephesians 1:3-14.
  6. Did the translations impact the meaning? If so, how?
  7. What do you think each passage is saying?
  8. Choose which translation you like best and why you chose that translation.
  9. Your paper should be 5-6 pages in length (not including cover and reference pages) and be supported by a minimum of three sources in addition to course resources. Be sure to review the grading criteria provided in the rubric and to format your paper using APA guidelines.
