Midterm - Take Home Portion

You can consult any materials you like, but please do not work with your classmates.

You are a consultant for the HR department of a large corporation. They have collected three samples of data to determine why some employees are leaving: one of only low salary employees, one of workers who have been injured, and one of workers who have left the company. They have given you the following information based on previous research:

The average satisfaction level of all employees is 0.61.

The average number of projects for all employees is 3.8.

The average monthly hours for all workers is 201.05.

They have asked you to look at the following questions:

1) Are low salary employees less satisfied at work than high salary employees?

2) Do workers who have left the company have a different number of projects than the average worker?

3) Do workers who were injured work fewer hours than the average worker?

Pick ONE of these questions and do the following:

  • Frame the problem - write down hypotheses, discuss your approach, etc. You don't need to use math notation here - you can write your hypothesis in words.
  • Compute a 92% confidence interval of your parameter of interest.
  • Perform an appropriate hypothesis test.
  • Summarize your results. Tell me what your confidence interval says and what you concluded from your hypothesis test.

Be brief. This should take less than 1 page.
