Individual report submission is required for assignment two. Students working on the same topic may discuss it with each other but reports are to be completed and submitted independently and all sources of information should be recorded/referenced, including those from fellow students.
Students should spend approximately 20 to 30 hrs researching and writing their assignment.
Selection link will be available on 27 April 2020 at 8 am in the course homepage to choose your topic of interest from the list below. One topic can only be selected by maximum of 50 students. Only few references are suggested below just to start with. Please also use other references (5-10 up to date references) to complete the task.
1. Geothermal Energy.
Explain the available technologies of generating electricity using geothermal energy and discuss the advantages, problems, current status and future prospects.
2. Discuss the technology, current status and prospects of solar thermal electricity generation.
3. Proton exchange membranes hydrogen Fuel Cell.
Discuss the technology, current status and prospects of Proton exchange membranes hydrogen Fuel Cell in transport and electricity sector.
Your discussion needs to include components, working principle, advantages, disadvantages and suitability of applications for residential/grid-connected system, transportation, industries and commercial applications, durability, and after life consideration. It should also include the current global status and its future prospect.
4. Energy storage
Discuss the technology, current status and prospects of energy storage technologies (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, and Thermal energy storages). Discuss the role of energy storage in allowing high penetration of Renewable Energy generation in Australia.
