At this point, the team is in the Measure phase of the DMAIC process. During this phase, the team must decide what data should be measured and ultimately analyzed. The first step in this phase typically consists of brainstorming the potential Xs and may utilize a fishbone (Ishikawa) diagram. The team then ranks the selected potential Xs based on their importance, often by massaging a CE Matrix for this situation, but any basic ranking matrix will work. Finally, the higher-impact, potential Xs are collected and analyzed in accordance with the data collection plan (DCP). While typically a team activity, as part of this assignment, you will complete a fishbone diagram and CE Matrix to gain a general understanding of these tools.
