A hay producer is trying to maximize the protein content of his crop. According to his crop consultant, he can achieve maximum yield of 3200 lb hay/acre by applying 140 lb urea/acre (urea is 46-0-0). Assume that the hay crop will remove 75% of the fertilizer N from the soil and that all the fertilizer N removed from the soil will be converted to the protein in the hay. What will be the protein content of the hay? (% protein= 6.25 * %N).
