Maria goes to a gym and asks for a day membership. She pays the fee and enters the changing room where there is a notice stating that the gym will not be responsible for any loss of property suffered by its customers. As Maria forgot to bring her glasses, she did not see the sign. She gets changed and locks her bag in the lockers provided by the gym. When she comes back, the locker has been opened and her bag is gone. Maria claims compensation from the gym but the gym says that it is not responsible and that Maria should have read the notice.

Maria is very upset and drives home. On the way she suffers a flat tire. She drops off her car at a garage where she signs a service agreement which states that the garage is not responsible for any damage caused by negligence of the garage or its staff. The next day Maria reads in the newspaper that one of the mechanics of the garage was angry about being made redundant and set fire to the garage, destroying all the cars.
