Question

How are regional councils of government (COG) involved in major infrastructure projects, such as the widening or building of a new highway?

COGs provide the expertise in the various trades, such as civil engineering, needed to be able to complete these complex projects. COGs must approve and provide funding authorization for any infrastructure project that crosses a county line. Since these projects involve multiple local government boundaries, COGs helps to coordinate the work between the different local entities. COGs coordinate cooperation between local government and the federal government to ensure that infrastructure projects meet all federal guidelines.
