Many atoms don't exist as neutral particles in nature, instead they are either positively or negativity charged ions. As you hopefully saw in this chapter's video, when a neutral atom loses an electron it become positively charged and alternatively, when a neutral atom gains an electron it becomes negatively charged.

The charge of the ion depends on the number of valence electrons it starts with. For example, neutral sodium has one valence electron which it is likely to lose when it form a +1 ion. (Post must be at least 300 words.)

For this discussion chose a main group element and predict what ion would form. Explain why you expect this ion and also discuss where you might find this ion in nature.
