You are required to answer the following questions to confirm your knowledge in relation to unit.

Q4. The principles in personal goal setting involve SMARTT goals, monitoring and rewards. Why do you think monitoring and rewards are important when setting goals?

Q6. List 5 professional development opportunities that can assist you in achieving up to date skill levels and skill advancement.

Q7. Describe 4 types of management work methods that can improve personal work performance for yourself and your team.

ASSESSMENT 2 - PROJECTS

Project: Portfolio and Journal

Your assessor will provide you with instructions and complete a checklist on which they will record your satisfactory performance of workplace tasks.

The Project Tasks table below identifies the documents that you are required to prepare and submit in your evidence portfolio. They may be presented in printed format in a folder or as an electronic copy. Ensure both your name and student number is clearly displayed.

Assessment Task 2: Portfolio and journal

Performance objective - The tasks detailed in this document are designed to support learners to demonstrate their competence as they complete Assessment Tasks 3 and 4. The learner is to gather a range of relevant information and evidence into a portfolio.

The learner must also maintain a journal as they compile their portfolio and plan for the other Assessment Tasks. This portfolio and journal must be submitted with this unit of competency.

Assessment description

Gather a range of information from relevant sources into a portfolio to help you complete Assessment Tasks 3 and 4

  • Documents, plans, reports, etc.
  • feedback from employees, clients and colleagues
  • participation in networks
  • other sources,

Maintain a comprehensive journal that records your information gathering and justifies your decision making. These may include:

  • Resume - With up to date qualifications and competencies
  • References from employers and colleagues
  • Client feedback forms - Completed
  • Employer feedback - May include employee appraisals
  • Certificates of learning
  • Statements of attainment
  • Acknowledgements of seminars, workshops and other learning environments that have been completed
  • Any documentation regarding competencies and professional development completed.
  • Personal references and feedback

Procedure -

Analyse Assessment Tasks 2, 3 and 4, and Appendix 1: Assessor Checklist, to determine the information gathering and planning you are going to need to show in your portfolio and journal.

Use a folder to keep your portfolio of information and evidence that you source. The portfolio should include relevant copies or originals of:

  • organisational documents (whole or extracts)
  • personal documents
  • evidence/summaries of feedback collected (copies, records, etc.)
  • evidence/summaries of networks accessed
  • training documents
  • other information sources.

During your information gathering and planning, maintain a journal. This should record:

  • what information you gathered and from where
  • how the information gathered is going to help you complete each part of Assessment Tasks 2 and 3 and every interview question in Assessment Task 4.

Specifications -Classroom-based learners

  • You must submit a portfolio folder that contains evidence (copies, originals, transcripts, references, etc.) of information gathering undertaken as you plan to complete Assessment Tasks 3 and 4
  • You must submit a journal that clearly demonstrates your information gathering and decision making. and
  • Your portfolio must be catalogued in a logical manner, so that your assessor can easily access and understand its contents.
  • Your journal can be completed in pen or using a computer and may be laid out in note form. However, it must be submitted so that it can be read and understood by your assessor. It must thoroughly justify your planning towards every element in Assessment Tasks 3 and 4

Assessment Task 3: Report

Performance objective: The learner is to use the information gathered in Assessment Task 2 to complete a needs analysis report.

Assessment description - Review a range of information sources to help you complete a needs analysis that considers:

  • your personal goals and needs
  • your team's objectives and needs
  • your organisation's plans and needs
  • priorities
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • feedback
  • Technologies.

Procedure -

Gather a wide range of relevant information and complete a report identifying professional development goals and needs, under the headings below. Refer to the evidence gathered to support your claims.

1. Personal goals and needs:

a. What are your personal work goals?

b. Measure your personal performance: How effective am I? And How efficient am I?

c. What are your strengths and weaknesses in your work role? Use a personal SWOT analysis to identify your strengths and weakness

d. How would you maintain personal work performance standards when faced with differing situations in your workplace? What contingency strategies would you use? May include but not limited to -

  • Changes to Management
  • Relocation
  • Heavy workload

e. Explain the differing technologies you could use to effectively manage your work priorities and your work commitments? Include systems and processes to show how your work is organised and prioritised. May include but not limited to -

  • You must complete a report, organised under the headings provided. and
  • Your report needs to demonstrate that you have accessed appropriate information sources on which to build your opinions and write your report. Your report needs to refer to information gathered to support your arguments.
  • The portfolio and journal you are completing for Assessment Task 2 will need to detail the information sources you access and your decision making as you complete your report.

Assessment Task 4: Personal development plan (PDP)

Performance objective - The learner is to undertake personal development planning in order to develop and maintain professional competence.

Assessment description - You must plan, develop and confirm the suitability of a personal development plan (PDP), following the steps below.

Procedure - Complete the following steps to help you plan, complete and confirm a PDP:

1. Reflect on the training needs analysis report that you completed in Assessment Task 2.

2. Undertake a self assessment of your personal learning styles.

3. Identify a suitable unit/s of competency to meet your personal development needs.

4. Complete a PDP using the 'BSBWOR501 personal development plan.doc' template provided, or, source a suitable equivalent (consult with your trainer/assessor to confirm suitability).

5. Use your networks to confirm the suitability of your PDP.

Specifications - Classroom-based learners

You will need to complete and submit a PDP. and

The portfolio and journal you are completing for Assessment Task 2 will need to comprehensively demonstrate:

  • how the priorities you identified in Assessment Task 3 influence your personal development planning
  • how you identify your personal learning styles and how your findings influence your personal development planning
  • why the unit/s of competency and AQF level chosen are appropriate for your work role, goals and abilities
  • how you accessed networks during the development of your PDP to help you develop it and confirm its suitability.

Submitting your evidence portfolio - You are recommended to seek the advice of your assessor when putting together your evidence portfolio in order to confirm that you have provided sufficient evidence of competency. You should note that your evidence portfolio must be retained by the Registered Training Organisation for audit purposes and will not be returned to you. If you wish to keep any evidence, you should make a copy prior to submission for assessment. You are advised to make sure you clearly label each answer and task and complete all sections of each assessment. If possible, you should also submit copies of any workplace documents that may be relevant to this unit of competency. In this case you will need to gain approval to provide the copies from your employer.
