Question: The 2000 National Doctoral Program Survey asked 32,000 current and recent PhD students in the United States, across all disciplines, to respond to the statement "I am satisfied with my advisor." The researchers calculated the percentage of students who responded "agree" or "strongly agree": current students, 87%; recent graduates, 86%; former students who left without completing the PhD, 48%.
