Problem 1: A mass of 0.5 kg is suspended from a flywheel as shown in Figure. If the mass is released from rest and falls a distance of 0.5 m in 1.5 s, calculate:

a. The linear acceleration of the mass.

b. The angular acceleration of the wheel.

c. The tension in the rope.

d. The frictional torque, resisting motion.

Problem 2: A mass of 0.3 kg is suspended from a spring of stiffness 200 N m-1. If the mass is displaced by 10 mm from its equilibrium position and released, for the resulting vibration, calculate:

(a) (i) the frequency of vibration

(ii) the maximum velocity of the mass during the vibration

(iii) the maximum acceleration of the mass during the vibration

(iv) the mass required to produce double the maximum velocity calculated in (ii) using the same spring and initial deflection.

(b) Plot a graph of acceleration against displacement (x) (for values of x from x = -10 mm to x = +10 mm)

Define how to generate electricity with a inline turbine

Got a dam with a 22m damwall with a 200mm valve at the bottom. The waterlevel is 20m. If I connect a cone type of reducer to reduce the outlet to say 50mm and put the turbine somewhere on the line,

Determine the length of the channel for the n

A trapezoidal channel of bottom width 25ft and side slope 1:2.5 carries a discharge of 450cfs with a normal depth of 3.5 ft. The elevations at the beginning and end of the channel are 685 and 650 ft, respectively.

Determine the change in the bar thickness of axial load

At an axial load of 23 kN, a 40-mm-wide by 10-mm-thick polyimide polymer bar elongates 2.7 mm while the bar width contracts 0.17 mm. The bar is 240 mm long. At the 23-kN load, the stress in the polymer bar is less than its proportional limit.

Determine to what depth will the balloon sink

A 2.0-ft^3 object weighing 650 lb is attached to a balloon of negligible weight and released in the ocean (γ = 64 lb/ft^3). The balloon was originally inflated with 5.0 lb of air to a pressure of 20 psi.

Determine the safe load the column can carry using method

A column of dimensions 200 X 300 mm has an effective length of 3m. It is reinforced with 6 HYSD bars of 20mm diameter. Determine the safe load the column can carry using working method of design. Using M20 Concrete.

Determine what should be the magnitude of the load p2

A second load P2 is uniformly distributed around the cap plate at B. The diameters and thicknesses of the upper and lower parts of the post are dAB= 1.25 in, tAB= 0.5 in, dBC= 2.25 in and tBC= .375 in respectively.

Express samples hardness in meq per l and mg per l of caco3

Hardness is sum of all divalent cations (meaning all species with a positive charge of 2) in a water sample. Magnesium (Mg2+) and calcium (Ca2+) are the most common divalent cations that contribute to hardness.

With what velocity will air enter room under laboratory door

Laboratories containing dangerous materials are often kept at a pressure slightly less than ambient pressure so that contaminants can be discharged through an exhaust system rather than leaked through cracks and around doors to other parts of the ..
