Question: The patient a twenty-seven year old male was in an automobile accident in which he was a restrained driver and failed to stop completely at a stop sign. Patient states the sun was in his eyes and he was unable to see the pickup truck which was coming toward him at approximately 60 miles per hour. Patient pulled out in front of the pickup truck and was t-boned on the passenger side of his vehicle. Patient was a restrained driver and his vehicle although pushed across the road and into the nearby field did not roll over. Patient presents to the Emergency Room with a sustained open fracture of the left femur. Dr. Dogg inspects the fracture and diagnosis a stage 2 open fracture of the subcapital neck of the left femur. Due to the extent of the break Dr. Dogg contacts a higher level facility for immediate transfer. The patient is to remain npo (nothing by mouth). The patient will be brought immediately to the OR and the open fracture will be debrided of all necrotic tissue and debris. Contusions to the forehead, right hand, left upper arm and shoulder were noted.
