What are your takeaways from the discussion?
Leadership has taken a front seat towards helping the overall employee to be a better rounded person. Companies are doing this by making sure that employees are mentally, physically and spiritually healthy. By leadership taking a more active role in a well-rounded employee, they are taking an approach that shows concern for employee’s well-being. Today we had a training to help us motivate our clients and meet their needs. The facilitator shift the training to talk about the employees. This came as a surprise because trainings are more about the clients than about the employees. This new twist shows the connection to the latest trends in leadership.
What does it take to be an effective leader in the 21st Century? According to Andreas Jones,
Having empathy and being optimistic is just two of the ways leaders can be effective. “Empathy is simply the ability to understand how people feel and also share in those feelings. Empathy is important in a workplace, because it allows you handle relationships and manage conflicts. Empathy is also important because it allows you to connect with your customers and understand them.” This is very important because employees and customers do not like the idea of a leader analyzing them. The bottom line, individuals want to be heard and understood. Being optimist says that I have confidence in you succeeding. Also, optimism gives leaders the power to inspire employees and drive them forward.
