While in college, Joselyn often had to write reports and conduct research, and she always excelled at it. Yet, one of her electives was a creative writing class and she struggled with it. After meeting with her professor, Joselyn learned that different types, or genres, of writing have different formats and elements. When Joselyn started her first job out of college, she found that most of her writing was done over email. Often her emails were quick responses, and she learned to write messages that were easy to skim. She also found that she was able to inject a more personable tone into her email, which helped her to build relationships with co-workers.
