At a previous place of employment, an employee had been working for about ten years. He was good at his job and cross-trained to work in the other positions. This meant he was of high value to the company because he could fill those gaps if someone called in. Although great at his job, he had a reputation for being mean and always in a bad mood. Staff tended to try to stay clear from him, fearing him getting angry with them. This sometimes made the environment negative, which could upset some employees, causing them to want to leave the job. Utilizing the leadership traits from Creating Magic can help address the situation. As discussed in the reading, there are seven core values that the employees at Disney follow. The one that stood out to me most is respect. "You want respect, and so does everyone else, so think about what it means to you, and you'll understand how to give it to others" (Cockerell, 2008). I think it is essential for all staff, regardless of position, to respect one another.
