Jung and Myers-Briggs' Personality Type Test When helping a client find a career path, the first step many career counselors take is administering a personality test to determine what field and/or position will suit their client. One common test is the Jung and Myers-Briggs' Personality Type Test. Carl Jung was a Swedish psychologist and psychiatrist who founded analytic psychology. His theory focuses on four basic psychological functions:

1. Extrovert vs. Introvert
2. Sensation vs. Intuition
3. Thinking vs. Feeling
4. Judging vs. Perceiving

Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers studied and categorized personality types and believed individuals could grow through an understanding and appreciation of individual differences in personalities. They believed an understanding of personality types could enhance harmony and productivity in diverse groups. Their later work incorporated the four Jung psychological functions.
