A level is set up midway between two wood stakes that are about 300 feet apart. The rod reading on Stake A is 9.65 ft and the reading on stake B is 4.23 ft. The level is then set up 6 feet in front of stake B. Now the reading at stake A is 10.78 feet and at stake B is 5.42 feet. What is the correct difference in elevation between stakes A and B? If the level was in perfect adjustment, what would have the reading been on stake A at both setups? What is the line of sight error in 300 feet? Show this in a sketch.

Is the correct difference in elevation between A and B just 9.65 - 4.23 ft? Being that the level is halfway between the two points, does that mean that the light of sight error is really just 0? In order to solve for the reading on A, would you have to subtract the difference in elevation after the level is moved?
