When trying to answer, "is science the best way to gain facts about the universe," I had to look up the definition of science. I read that science is a systematic and logical approach to discovering how things in the universe work. Additionally, scientists use the scientific method to make observations, form hypotheses and gather evidence. I believe chapter 6 hit the nail on the head when it stated, "but we have no analogue in the case of the universe. We have not observed its creation." That being the case, science is certainly a great way to gain facts about the universe because the scientific method helps to formulate answers or facts about our surroundings and the universe. Another few statements in the book that I found relating to the question at hand was, "Among the main tasks the Positivists set for themselves was that of distinguishing legitimate science from other rather suspect fields and methods of human inquiry.
Specifically, they wanted to distinguish science from religion, metaphysics, and pseudo-science like astrology." I will probably not gain any popularity, but the pseudo-science of astrology to me is simply rubbish. There is nothing to be gained from it in exploring our universe. Outside reading from the text, also explained that while science is a powerful force in understanding the way the world works, it is not truth. To draw the distinction, there are facts. In conclusion, I do not think there is a best way to gain facts about the universe. Science is a great way with the use of the scientific method, but I also think observation and deductive reasoning are just as great.
