Saccharin is a lowcalorie sweetener used in sugar-free foods and beverages. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the acceptable daily intake (ADI) of saccharin is 5 mg for a person with a body weight of 60 kg. If saccharin is used as an additive, it must be included on the food label and cannot exceed certain limits. Independent random samples of 12-ounce bottles of iced tea from two different manufacturers were obtained, and the amount of saccharin in each drink was measured (in mg). The summary statistics were as follows: Fishing Creek, n1 = 20, s12 = 7.84; Honest Tea, n2 = 15, s22 = 2.89.
a. Conduct the appropriate test to determine whether there is any difference in the population variance of saccharin amounts. Use a = 0.02.
b. Find bounds on the p value associated with this hypothesis test.
