Questions
1. Interview five non-medical individuals who are not family or close friends (perhaps someone at the grocery store, or dentist office, be creative!), and ask the following questions:
a. Does the individual know what a Nurse Practitioner is, and what they do?
b. Does the individual see a NP as a provider, or have they in the past?
c. If the individual does not see or has not seen a NP as a provider, wouldthey consider doing so?
d. Obtain from the individual:
i. What gender does the individual identify as?
ii. What ethnic group does the individual identify as?
iii. Approximate age
iv. Current Employment
v. Location of interview
2. Interview five (5) medical individuals who are not family or close friends, and ask the following questions:
a. Does the medical individual trust NPs?
b. Has the medical individual seen a NP as a provider?
c. If they have not seen an NP as a provider, would they consider doingso?
d. If a physician is interviewed, would he/she hire an NP as a provider?
3. Interview your preceptor, and ask the following questions:
a. How long has she/he been a NP/medical provider?
b. What types of students has the preceptor precepted in the past (NPs, PAs, MDs, etc...)?
c. How many students has she/he precepted in the past?
d. Does the provider feel trusted by the medical community?
e. One tip that he/she would provide for a NP graduate just entering the workforce as a provider
4. Each student is to complete simple statistical analyses of their data
a. Use numerical responses counting
b. For example, if five people were asked the same question and 4 answered the same, then you would have 4 for a yes column and 1 for a no column
5. Remember to explain that they will NOT be identified in any way, it is just a class assignment.
6. Understand that all responses might not be positive
7. If the individuals provide a non-positive response to any question, attempt to obtain rationale for response without great probing.
