Question

Individuals who have a strong mastery orientation Struve to achieve because of the pleasure they get out of learning and mastering the material (Steinburg, 2019, pg. 326). I have personally always loved learning new things and I find joy in understanding how others feel, alongside their perspectives. Individuals with a strong mastery orientation perform better in school than those whose motivation is mainly driven by performance goals because intrinsically motivated individuals are more confident about their ability and more likely to persist in the face of failure (Steinburg, 2019, pg. 326). This remains true for me because I have always received relatively good grades and have done well in classes. In high school, I was consistently taking honors classes and a few AP classes. Although these classes were difficult I would have more trouble understanding the material, I would persist in practicing and asking for help. This would help me in my journey as a college student. I remained persistent during the past 4 years at Lourdes, although it has not been easy. For my artifact, I chose the picture from when I got initiated into the National Honors Society for History last April. This was a huge accomplishment for me and a recognition for the hard work that I have strived to achieve within the field of History. Without my Mastery Orientation mindset, it would have been much more difficult for me to achieve what I have academically.
