To understand the vector nature of momentum in the case in which two objects collide and stick together. In this problem we will consider a collision of two moving objects such that after the collision, the objects stick together and travel off as a single unit. The collision is therefore completely inelastic. You have probably learned that "momentum is conserved" in an inelastic collision. But how does this fact help you to solve collision problems? The following questions should help you to clarify the meaning and implications of the statement "momentum is conserved."
In a PET scan, an electron and positron annihilate each other, creating two (massless) photons. What is the kinetic energy of each photon in this case
Using the Bohr model what is the radius of the electron orbit in the Hydrogen atom when the electron is in the n = 12 state? What is the energy of the Hydrogen atom when the electron is in the n = 3 state?
A pipe is open at both ends. The pipe has resonant frequencies of 528 Hz and 660Hz (among others). Find two possible values for the length of the pipe
A speed skater moving across frictionless ice at 8.1 m/s hits a 5.6m wide patch of rough ice. What is her acceleration on the rough ice
The coefficient of static friction between the ladder and the ground is 0.55, and the ladder makes a 50.0° angle with the ground. Explain how far up the ladder can an 720 N person climb before the ladder begins to slip?
A positive charge of q1 is located 4.40 m to the left of a negative charge q2. The charges have different magnitudes. How far to the left of the negative charge is one spot
Near Earth, the density of protons in the solar wind (a stream of particles from the Sun) is 12.8 cm-3, and their speed is 522 km/s. what total current in amperes Earth receive
If a 68.3 kg person were travelling at 0.960c (where c is the speed of light), what would be the ratio of the person's actual kinetic energy to the person's classical kinetic energy
The isotope, tritium, has a half-life of 12.3 years. Assume we have 12 kg of the substance. How much tritium will be left after 26years? State your answer in kg ( two decimal places)
A proton moves through a magnetic field at 36.9% of the speed of light. At a location where the field has a magnitude of 0.00629 T and the proton\'s velocity makes an angle of 141° with the field, what is the magnitude of the magnetic force acting on..
The end point of a spring vibrates with a period of 1.9 seconds when a mass m is attached to it. When this mass is increased by 9.630×101 kg, the period is found to be 4.1 seconds. Find the value of m.
our little sister builds 2 tree houses and stretches a rope between them for sending messages to other tree house. She hangs a mass of 1.4kg on one end of the rope that passes over the pulley.
