Assessment
The project assignment is one the summative assessments for this unit. This project gives you the opportunity to develop, design and implement a dynamic web pages for a small business. This project will use many of the concepts and techniques we have covered throughout the unit.
The project allows you produce (plan, design and develop) a client-side script for dynamic web pages from scratch using the various application and development tools used throughout this unit.
If this is your first project assignment, it might seem overwhelming at first, but your trainer will help and guide you to a project definition that is neither too large nor too small in scope for this assignment.
Background Study: Dynamic Web Pages Development
This document contains specific requirement and task of the project assignment for this unit. This project should be an individual effort. You will act as the project manager, web developer and web designer.
Your role as the project manager is to facilitate and oversee the entire project from commencement to completion.
As the web designer, you will be responsible for making sure the business or client requirements are met, the project is on schedule and is of an acceptable quality.
As the web developer, your main role is to design, code and modify the dynamic websites in order to meet your client's specification and business requirements.
Specific Task and Requirements
Use the concepts, techniques and skills you have learnt in this course to complete this assignment.
Conceptualisation: Investigation and Analysis
For the investigation phase, you will need to either choose from the list of examples (case scenarios) provided in the table below or come up with your own idea for a project or use any franchise of your choice.
You will need to discuss your topic and or ideas with your trainer before you start your project. You will NOT be allowed to work as a group to complete this project as you will be assessed individually to assess your competency.
Your project topic should aim at producing dynamic web pages for your chosen project topic and to meet the specific requirements set out by your client. You are required to follow the recommended steps in web development and utilize the resources (applications and tools) used in the labs!
Remember the investigation phase is designed to assess the feasibility of a project. You can use the following questions to help you with this phase:
• What primary problems might a new web pages solve?
• What opportunities or issue is the site addressing?
• What is the motivation for the site?
• What are the associated risks, benefits and cost involved?
Any ideas for your web development that are being reused from another source should be clearly documented and discussed with your trainer before going ahead with it. Once you have decided on a web development project topic, you will need to design the web pages.

Plan and Design
The project plan and design should include concise description of the dynamic functionality and
requirements of your proposed web documents. You will need to include this in your report writing.
• features of the web pages you will be designing,
• what it will do
• who the intended users are
• what kind of requirements your intended users or clients would most likely want
• how you plan to incorporate these requirements into your final design.
NOTE: It is a good idea to spend time thinking this through clearly as this sets the stage for the rest
of the project and remember: "The customer is always right!"
As the sole web designer for this project, you must be creative and technically sound to create the look, layout and features of your dynamic website. You need to have in-depth knowledge and understanding of what it takes to make the website functional and easy to use, at the same time appealing to the client or user. You need to understand both graphic design and computer programming. You will need to extend these skills to complete the next phase of this project.
Web Development
The web developer is usually responsible for designing, coding and modifying websites, form layout to function in order to meet the client's specifications. You must strive to create visually appealing sites that features user-friendly design and clear navigation.
Selecting the appropriate language
Your web site must meet the requirements below.
Use HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript to develop your website. Use may use other languages or tools to assist your development and make your site more exciting. You will be assessed for competency based on the amount of self-research on these tools.
Design Web Documents with Embedded Script
Use your creativity and technicality (using appropriate language like JavaScript) to create the look, layout and features of your dynamic website. The ultimate goal here is to design a dynamic web page that meet your client's specifications.
Hints: consider ease of use, easy and clear navigation etc.
To design your website, you may need to provide all the following elements:
• Site map
• Prototype
• Wireframe
• Page layout
• Use of Colour
• Logo design
