2. Read and complete the "Preparing for a Future Decision": Consider a decision coming up in your life. Reflect on the issues and concerns that are leading you to make this decision. What exactly is "the problem" you must resolve with this decision? What is your decision-critical criteria? Which are essential and which are important but only desirable? Are there any minimum thresholds that must be met for an option to be considered viable? How do you plan to scrutinize your options? How will you be sure that you have heard all sides? Is there a way for you to assure yourself that none of the essential options will be dropped out of the equation before you make your decision? How do you plan to ensure that you have diligently engaged in truth-seeking, maintained your objectivity, and impartially evaluated all the options prior to selecting a favorite? How will you determine when the time has come to make the decision? What factors will you monitor after you have made your decision, so that you can know whether a mid-course correction is needed? This exercise does not invite you to make that important decision. It invites you to lay the groundwork for making that decision by applying the critical thinking strategies of self-regulation.
