Community development is a holistic approach grounded in principles of empowerment, human rights, inclusion, social justice, self-determination and collective action (Kenny, 2007). Community development considers community members to be experts in their lives and communities, and values community knowledge and wisdom.
Instructions:
Conduct an online research on relevant non- governmental and other organisations like SAPS or local schools. Identify some of the social justice problems facing the community and IDENTIFY which problem you will focus on. - Identify and describe the social issue.
- Explain how ADR can be used to address the specific the community issue.
- Identify the relevant parties and whether the other party is able to resolve the complaint raised.
In the absence of an actual intervention to assist the community, explain what the expected resolution would look like.
The purpose of the task is for students to apply their minds to social issues and anticipate ways in which ADR might help resolve
On completion of the DISCUSSION, submit a report that will capture the following elements/aspects:
- Identify and explain the social justice issues dealt with.
- Illustrate how the community was actually or may be assisted with the issue/issues.
- Make a link or connection between the problem vs the solution, demonstration how the group/project is 'part of the solution' or provides a framework for creating a solution for community implementation.
