PART ONE

For this assignment, research and review the coaching session between Mike and Whitmore that transpired in Chapters 7-10 of the Whitmore text. Conduct a similar coaching session with a high-performing individual either within your organization or who is a friend or a family member. The topic of the coaching session can be anything with which your coachee would like to be helped. You should use a similar strategy that Mike used with Joe to help your coachee set his or her Goals, assess the Reality, determine realistic Options, and establish the coachees Will.

Respond to the following:

• How did you identify the person you selected to coach? How did you recognize this individual as a high-performing individual? How can coaching this individual support succession planning within an organization?
• How did you demonstrate your leadership skills when coaching this individual?
• How did you apply indirect influence and what steps did you take to enlist endorsements of others? How did you use positional power, trust, and respect to smooth over any issues you encountered?
• How did you demonstrate a true interest in this individual and seek to understand his or her point of view?

PART TWO

Research the Whitmore's GROW model.

• Discuss each step of the GROW model as outlined by John Whitmore.
• Explain how the GROW model helps the coach to better understand the coachee and allows the coach to use those insights to better assist the individual.
