Data Analysis - Final SPSS Assignment

This assignment is designed to allow you to use the skills that you have learned in tutorial to run and interpret SPSS outputs. This assignment can be completed independently or in pairs. You will conduct the following analyses and answer all of the questions below:

This assignment will require the GSS93 subset (on Blackboard) and the following variables: highest year of school completed (educ), respondent's sex (sex), should marijuana be legal (grass), and is life exciting or dull (life).

Question 1: Identify the level of measurement of each of the four variables and run frequencies (with valid percent) and appropriate measures of central tendency for each. Report these descriptive statistics in APA charts (see examples on BB) and write a one or two sentence summary.

Question 2: Using SPSS, run a t-test to determine if there is a significant difference in the number of years of education for those who believe marijuana should be legal and those think it should not be legal. Write-up the results in proper APA format.

Question 3: Using SPSS, run a one-way ANOVA to determine if there is a significant mean difference in the number of years of education for those who believe life is dull, routine or exciting. If appropriate, run a post hoc analysis to determine where any differences exist. Write-up the results in proper APA format.

Question 4: Using SPSS, run a cross-tab to determine if the variables should marijuana be legal and sex are independent. Write-up the results in proper APA format.

Format and structure: Your paper will be a maximum of five pages double-spaced, not including your SPSS outputs. Questions 2-4 should each include a purpose (one sentence), hypothesis (null and alternative) and results (one - two paragraphs).
