You are a member of the interdisciplinary team working with Barbie Lind, a 36-year-old woman recovering from a recent surgical resection of a malignant thoracic spinal cord tumor. Mrs. Lind has a supportive husband and a 2-year-old son. Mrs. Lind's husband, James, states, "I am really worried about Barbie because she was quite distressed for about 6 months prior to the surgery over the death of her father. I fear the surgery might have pushed her to the edge." Currently, 2 weeks' status post resection, Mrs. Lind is beginning to ask team members questions about her prognosis and potential functional abilities. She says "I remember the surgeon trying to explain the surgery to me, but honestly, I didn't really understand much of what he told me. I am a bit naïve when it comes to anything medical." Mrs. Lind appears quite anxious about the cancer diagnosis and about how she will be able to continue caring for her son.

1. Describe the instructional approach to Mrs. Lind using one of the Models of Learning Styles that we have discussed. Identify the Learning Style Model and then discuss your instructional approach.

2. Using the PEEK model, identify five (5) potential obstacles that might interfere with Mrs. Lind's readiness to learn.

3. Discuss two (2) methods that will be used to assess Mrs. Lind's learning needs. State the reason for choosing those methods and include its advantages and disadvantages.
