A researcher predicted that musicians would score significantly higher on a standardized math test than the general population. A random representative sample of 10 musicians took a standardized math test and their scores were compared to the average score of the general population on that same standardized math test. The scores of the 10 musicians were as follow: 59, 55, 68, 69, 58, 59, 61, 63, 67, 58.

The average standardized math score for the general population is mu=57.

1. Identify the IV and DV in this study.

2. What are the mathematical notations for Ha and Ho in this study?

3. Is this a 1 tailed or 2 tailed hypothesis?

4. Using the formula for the one sample t test from your textbook, report the value of t obs to 2 decimal places.

5. Report the value of t crt at the alpha level of 0.05. NEVER round off the t critical values. (See Appendix table C.4 in the textbook)

6. What should the researcher's statistical decision be? (This must be either "Reject Ho" or "Do not reject Ho")

7. Calculate the value of Cohen's d to 2 decimal places.

8. What should the researcher's conclusion be? Include an interpretation of the practical significance of the effect size.
