Overview

The client that I will be choosing is a young man who is in the care of DSS I'm an out of home caseworker with somerset DSS his care is new to me but I have some knowledge based in the exited amount of days and time we went to court, the youth is placed at spring grove hospital pending discharged his behaviors are really poor he is diagnosed with a lot of mental health issues he has been diagnosed with disruptive mood, dysregulation disorder, PTSD, reactive, attachment disorder, ADHD, and conduct disorder. It has been reported that he has displayed several maladaptive personality, characteristic pervasive pattern of disregard for en violation of rights of other and positivity, difficulty controlling anger. He has a habit of fire setting assault to others and he doesn't take any accountability for his action in the past. He attempted to light one of his one on one on fire and he found it to be funny. He was ask about it believe that he has any mental health condition. She stated it's the department fault that her son has all these behavioral concerns and mental concerns, his mother is not in compliance with the department service plan and her mother has the department in court and go to court. Her mother shows mental health concern. Also last time I went to court we were in court from 9 AM to 5:30 PM in the afternoon.

Consider two major theories in clinical practice: psychodynamic theory and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). These theories will be applied to a hypothetical client system of each student's choosing. Students will consider the purpose, role of the clinician, practice approaches, and strengths and weaknesses in each approach as applied to their case.

Instructions

For this homework each student will identify a client they have interacted with, either in their field placement or in another helping environment. Students are encouraged to choose a client based on their knowledge and insight into the client's experiences and functioning. Students are sometimes tempted to choose the most complicated or memorable cases for these homeworks, but the best work comes from selecting cases where enough information is available to draw the needed conclusions.

You will not be asked to do anything different with this client than you are already doing (or have done). This is not a roleplay and you are not being asked to act on any of these ideas.

Students should submit a written document approximately 6 to 8 pages in length that reflects the standards of graduate course work (e.g., formatted appropriately, spelling and grammar correct, proofread for errors).

In your response, be sure to respond to the following prompts:

1) Identify the client's presenting problem. Describe how you believe this problem would be understood both within psychodynamic practice and CBT.

2) What would your role be as the clinician in these two theoretical orientations?

3) Describe at least two tactics under each theoretical orientation that you would anticipate using with this client.

4) Consider what you believe would be the strengths and weaknesses of each approach with this particular client, including how the work would align (or not) with social work values and ethics.
