Case Scenario: You have been appointed as a management trainee for a well-established hotel in London. Like most hospitality organisations, the hotel has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic for the past 2 years.
The hotel was beginning to show some increase in room bookings. However, there are few challenges and issues that are still affecting its operations. One of the main challenges being shortage of staff members due to the surge in the new Omicron variant which has forced many of its staff members to self-isolate.
This has further increased the already existing shortage of staff post Brexit.
You have been asked by your line manager to review the situation and come up with some creative solutions to tackle these underlying issues facing the hotel. You will need to include this in the form of a report
1. Introduction
• Introduction to the topic and your aim to include in the report
2. Main body of the report
• Introduce the organization brand -history, mission statement/values and products/services/business lifecycle phase
• Elaborate on the management functions that can be applied in the hotel. Give examples of how these functions can be applied by the hotel management in its day-to-day operation.
• Given the problem in the above scenario, analyse the problem using the management theories and concepts before making recommendations to solve the problems. Recommend creative solutions to the problems identified. Support your suggestion with relevant theories and literature.
• Identify some of the strategies used by the business to gain competitive advantage in the market. Use relevant literature to justify these strategies used by the hotel.
• Drawing on the critical incident identified above, apply relevant theories/tools to develop strategic change. This change can be an overall change in the way the business operates or a change in the business operation strategies.
Select two of the management theories and draw its relationship with the practical day to day operation. Make your own conclusion to explain the suitability of the theories in real life and justify the conclusions drawn.
4. Conclusion
Your conclusion should include the main summary and findings
